A very nice black comedy with genuine humour, with very good performances. It keeps viewers attention until the end. Also there are many unpredictable moves that keep the interest high. (In fairness, I knew from the trailer that I probably would find this movie too dark. If you liked the trailer, maybe you will like this movie. The Rotten Tomatoes rating convinced me to see it, but sometimes statistics can be deceiving.)
Samara Weaving plays a new bride marrying into an unusual family, who have board games on display in their hallways and taxidermied animals eating other taxidermied animals in their living room. However, she soon realizes that things are even darker than they seem, and she has to fight to survive her wedding night.
Unfortunately, that's about as much as the plot is developed. The movie could have been a satire on family dynamics or class, or maybe it could have pushed the absurdist elements to the forefront (instead of leaving that for the ending, which was just weird enough that it almost worked) but instead the flimsy plot is treated as an excuse to run through shock-value violence in which every meaningless death (most of them women) is treated as a punchline. Someone in my row walked out shortly before the end; I should have walked out long before.
Although the great cast gives it their all, they are given little to do other than scream and run. A deeply upsetting and shallow movie.

As my title suggests this is another dark comedic dive into slasher films - which I am excited about. Not overly original but seemingly a perfect mix of serious thriller/horror and accidental fightback comedy. It almost feels as though 2017s The Babysitter and 2009s The Last House on the Left were meshed together to create a steadily building suspense, all while keeping things somewhat light and real. A dark comedy in its truest form.
Our protagonist does not come out unscathed mentally or physically by any means, as we see a Carrie-esc bride covered in blood and. human remains emerge from the once bright and carefree woman she was in the beginning. Undergoing changes at the same rate that her once beautiful wedding dress does.
I very much enjoyed the acting which I felt was both deeply satisfying and unsettling as all actors appear to fit perfectly into their messed up roles. Some of the storytelling is a bit vague or lazy (a telling if you will) I found myself leaving with a couple more questions regarding histories of the family and other characters. However for what it is the audience gets the just of it.
Alas the ending is not as surprising as promised - although I can't fault it there, it is tough to create something audiences haven't seen before at this stage in the game. br> All in all I enjoyed this film and did not feel led astray by the trailer or advertising - it very much is what it is selling.
